Sharjah is one of the true jewels among the states of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).   • Safety
Sharjah is considered a very safe city in Arab countries. Due to its reputation as being a conservative cultural city, it gives prior importance to women travellers and high security to assure their safety. However, it is necessary to keep an eye on luggage at all times and avoid exposure of valuable items. In peak seasons, it is advisable to be safe from bag snatchers especially those that ride bicycles.

As compared to other Arab cities, lifestyle of women is quite moderate and liberal. However, it is always good to respect the tradition and culture of the city especially by wearing suitable clothing. It is advisable to wear loose clothes and avoid wearing swimming suits on public beaches.

Normally tipping is not expected in the Arab countries, a service charge is normally added to the end of bills in restaurants and hotels. In addition, tipping can be given to appreciate the good service and food. It is not obligatory to give tips to the taxi drivers.

  • When to Travel

Sharjah is famous for being a summer destination that has a traditionally hot climate and high humidity. In the summer season, is it common for temperatures to exceed 45°C during the daytime with warm nights.

The best time to visit this city is the start of November to April, as climate changes from extreme hot to pleasant with warm sunny days and cool evenings. In these months even humidity levels are low and rainfall is rarely expected. The rainy season lasts for a very short period but it records the highest rainfall in the UAE in relation to other Arab cities.

Sharjah is a perfect place for shopping lovers or freaks. This city is a stop over for all kinds of tourists. It offers a wide range of shopping malls full of perfumes, textiles, carpets, gold jewellery and much more. Different shopping festivals are promoted by the government of Sharjah as being a cultural and entertainment hub.

Sharjah International Airport provides services like restaurants, snack bars, car hire, 24-hour duty-free shops and banking centres. There is no major public transportation available in the city but other modes of transport like cars, taxis, and motorcycles are available. Drinking is strictly prohibited in the city especially while driving.
